Graduated from secondary school No. 1 of Haradok (1968); graduated with honors from the physical and mathematical faculty of the Viciebsk state pedagogical university named after S. Kirov (currently Viciebsk state university named after P. Mašeraŭ) in 1972, specialty "Mathematics", studied at postgraduate courses of ITC ASB (1981). From 1972 Alexander Doudkin worked as a teacher in the Čašniki region. From 1976 he served in the Soviet Army. Since 1978 worked in ITC in the laboratory of system programming and logical design, since 1981 – junior researcher, since 1987 – researcher, since 1988 – senior researcher, since 1989 – senior researcher in the laboratory of problems of building CAD VLSI of the Brest branch of the Institute, since 1994 – senior researcher of the laboratory of systems identification. Simultaneously worked in BNTU and BSUIR from 1989, from 2008 to 2014 worked as the head of the branch of the BSUIR computer department at the UIIP NAS of Belarus, since 2010 – chief scientist, since 2015 – head of the laboratory.

A. Doudkin performed scientific works on design automation of discrete devices and digital VLSI, processing of visual information in computer vision systems. He developed methods for constructing high-speed circuits based on matrix VLSI, a number of RPCB and VLSI control devices design systems were created with its use and implemented at enterprises of the electronic industry of Belarus and Russia (CDB "Almaz" and Central research Institute "Agat", PCB "Alpha", Minsk watch factory "Luch" and etc.; developed information technology of processing, analysis and identification of video images of electronic products elements for design and production control tasks of integrated circuits, which is implemented in an automated system for recovering the metallization topology from a digitized image of the metallization layers of an integrated circuit crystal and implemented in the concern "Planar" and SPA "Integral".

A. Doudkin is the scientific supervisor of assignments for a number of state scientific and scientific-technical programs: "To develop software for the classification of topology defects detected as a result of automatic control of the semiconductor wafers topology", SSTP "Information Technologies", task 2-05; "To develop the experimental model of a neural network system for monitoring the state and behavior of spacecraft subsystems based on telemetric data for a ground command-measuring complex", STP of US "Monitoring-SG", task No. 6MSG/13-222; "Development of theoretical foundations and technologies for building computer systems for data mining based on pattern recognition and image analysis", task 1.7.04 GPNI "Informatics, space and security", subprogram (1); the task of the SSTP "Physical materials science, new materials and technologies" and republican and international projects financed by the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research.

Secretary of the Coordination Council of the State Committee for Science and Technology "Information and Space Technologies" (2011 – May 2016). Member of two councils for the defense of dissertations: D02.15.01 at BSUIR and D01.04.01 at UIIP NAS of Belarus, member of the State Expert Council No. 12, member of the Academic Council of UIIP NAS of Belarus, member of the Scientific Council "Information Technologies and Systems" of UIIP NAS of Belarus.

Member of the editorial boards of the journals "Journal of Research and Applications in Agricultural Engineering" (Poland) and "Journal of the Belarusian State University. Mathematics. Informatics".

A. Doudkin simultaneously works as professor at BSUIR. Chairman of the SEC of BSU, BrSTU and BNTU, Chairman of the SGC for the final certification of graduate students (doctoral students, applicants) (see Staff training).

A. Doudkin has published over 240 publications, including two monographs, three collections of materials on the mathematical support of computers, more than 80 articles in scientific journals and collections of scientific papers.
