Decision support system for the design of power hydromechanical transmissions

Product brief description:
The system supports the decision-making process in the power hydromechanical transmissions designing, which may include: a torque converter, coupled with the motor shaft; a shaft gearbox; mechanical gears chains of different types that transmit the rotation from the torque converter to the input shaft and from the input shaft to those of the transmissions.
The system provides the design recommendations according to the rational values ​​of the main project parameters of the designed transmission (on the assumption that the structural plan of the transmission has already been selected at the previous design stages, and we know the characteristics of the engine and the torque converter, as well as the defined modes of transmission defined by the functional requirements). The basic version of the system assumes that the transmission has the following types of gears: a spur or helical gear; a bevel spur or helical gear; a bevel gear and a planetary gear of 2K-Htype. In order to expand the functionality of the system, software modules can be focused on other types of transmissions.

The system is aimed at a comprehensive solution of the basic subtasks in the process of designing the examined transmission class as a single multi-hop system.

The system provides:
- The definition of common gear ratios of transmission kinematic chains with the simultaneous distribution of the transmission set operating modes;
- Coordinated distribution of the derived common gear ratios of kinematic chains through transmissions;
- Determining the types of gears and their main operating parameters (diameters and widths of annular gears, modules and numbers of teeth, the correction coefficients, teeth tilt angles, etc.) and the outside shafts diameters.

The main functional, kinematic, strength and design factors are taken into account:
- the  loads and the overall duration of the transmission work for each of the set operation modes;
- The engine and torque converter possible operating modes;
- The required operating life of the transmission in general (for fixed values of gear materials strength characteristics) or the required probability of operating life of the transmission during a certain period of its operation (taking into account the nature of set strength characteristics if necessary) on the basis of contact and bending endurance of gears and the torsion static strength of shafts;
- Legitimate values of gear ratios for each gear and shaft legitimate rotation speed;
- The required centre-to-centre distance.

The main criteria for the quality of acceptable design solutions are:
- The expected integral efficiency of transmissions in general and of torque converter in particular (calculated on the set operating modes);
- The estimation of the expected total weight of all the gears and shafts. The solution of the basic design subtasks is performed using specially developed mathematical optimization models and techniques.

Management of the solution of initial project task in the context of the general scheme of its solution is carried out by a user in a dialogue mode with using directive language with nested menu system. Control and project management subsystem locks the of design procedures that do not have all the initial data generated in previous stages. A user can interrupt the process of problem solving with the possibility to remember its current state and restart the decision process during the next session.
Subsystem of the output documentation forming makes it possible to view the initial data and the results of each project procedures on a screen, to print it as a document, to generate data to transmit it to the systems of layout transmissions and to develop working plans.

Main advantages
:
Two versions of the system have been designed. The first one functions in the dual-computer system as part of the CAD work station based on standard configuration PC that runs Windows-XP, Windows2000 and higher  Windows versions. It also functions as a part of high-performance multiprocessor computing system such as "SKIF" with Linux operating environment.
The second version can function only on PC basis. The system has a user-friendly interface aimed at a skilled developer, who can be an active participant of decision-making and project estimation processes. The system makes it possible to create a detailed analysis and optimization of the transmission basic design decisions within 2-3 sessions. Such a detailed study of the design solutions is not feasible by using traditional methods. The system can function with other systems and can be used for the creation of integrated systems of automated projecting of complex technical objects for various purposes.

Field of application
:
The system can be used in design offices of engineering companies involved in the design of transmissions for different purposes. It can also be used in institutions of training and retraining of specialists of mechanical engineering and information technology.

Stages of development
:
The current versions of the system have been tested on real design tasks of the
“Minsk Tractor Works” State Enterprise and of JSC “Amkodor”. The experts of these enterprises have participated in system development.

Forms of cooperation
:
Product developers provide its installation and adaptation to customer’s conditions, product usage training, methodological and technical support and participation in the further development.
