Digitalization of Science and Technology

02.12.2025
The United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus continues its active work on the digitalization of scientific and library activities, as well as the implementation of artificial intelligence and modern information technologies. These topics were discussed at the XIV International Scientific and Technical Conference “Development of Informatization and the State System of Scientific and Technical Information” (RINTI-2025), held on November 20, 2025, in Minsk.
The conference brought together more than 40 organizations from six countries — Belarus, Russia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, China, and Italy. Key areas of focus included digital transformation, electronic services, the development of a unified information space, corporate and library information systems, scientific information networks, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and cognitive technologies.
Alexander Shumilin, Academic Secretary of the Department of Physics, Mathematics, and Informatics of the NAS of Belarus, emphasized the role of digital technologies and AI in accelerating research and development. Digital twins allow modeling of equipment and processes, optimizing designs, and testing solutions much faster than traditional methods. He also highlighted the use of digital models in drug design, opening new opportunities for science and medicine.
Konstantin Shulgan, Deputy Director General for Digital Development at UIPI NAS Belarus, discussed the implementation of domestic healthcare digitalization systems. He stressed the importance of locally developed and maintained software solutions: “Digitalization for its own sake is ineffective. A planned, gradual implementation of technologies with trained personnel who understand their value for competitiveness is essential.”
Romuald Grigyanets, Head of the Laboratory of Information Support for Scientific Research, spoke about the application of IT in libraries. Automated library systems are being developed with language interfaces and software based on open-source solutions. The Unified Electronic Catalog of Libraries of Belarus is being implemented, including regional catalogs and normative record databases, as well as digitization of rare publications with full-text online access.
During the conference, an exhibition of literature in the field of scientific and technical information and stands showcasing the scientific achievements of NAS Belarus researchers were organized. A collection of conference proceedings was published, reflecting the latest advances in the informatization of science and technology.
RINTI-2025 demonstrated how digitalization and artificial intelligence are becoming integral parts of the scientific and educational process, opening new opportunities for research, the development of innovative products, and the modernization of infrastructure in Belarus. Read the full article.
